Visit a land-based abalone farm producing premium Australian tiger abalone for local and export markets. A unique experience!

A Port Fairy aquaculture operation founded by abalone divers in 1996, Southern Ocean Mariculture was one of Australia’s first abalone farms. The farm is known for its Ocean Road Abalone brand, celebrating 10 years in 2024.

SOM’s team of dedicated aquaculturists (many from nearby Deakin University’s Marine Science program) produces 120+ tonnes of premium tiger abalone annually, in a range of sizes, sold live or processed locally into ready-to-eat canned and vacuum-packed abalone.

Visitors to Ocean Road Abalone can enjoy an immersive, behind-the-scenes tour of the farm, where they will witness the full lifecycle of premium abalone. Led by knowledgeable aquaculture technicians, Guests will follow the lifecycle of abalone, exploring the nursery, grow-out sheds, and the packing facility where live shipments are prepared. Photography is welcome, and all necessary safety gear, including hi-vis vests and gumboots, will be provided

- More detailed information will be emailed at least three day prior to tour
- We advise booking early to avoid disappointment; catered tasting may not be available for places booked within 72 hours of tour date.

Ticket prices: $55 per adult including tasting $45 per adult without tasting Children 16 and under may attend at no cost or with a $10 ticket to include a tasting.
