The Experience
Experience life in the outback in the understated luxury of the exclusive Gilberton Outback Retreat. Unplug, unwind and recharge on our 7th generation working cattle station in the stunning goldfields country of far northern Queensland.
Gilberton station is rich in cultural, gold mining and cattle production history and we offer you an insight into this unique balance of working cattle station and nature refuge. Engage in station activities like feeding and mustering, explore the remnants of gold rush days, have a go at gold fossicking, or simply immerse yourself in this natural wilderness.
As our exclusive guests, we tailor your experience entirely to your needs. Do as much or as little as you please. All activities, meals and tours are inclusive, so all you need to do is choose your adventure or simply just soak up the tranquillity.
The Accommodation
Perched on the bluff overlooking the Gilbert River, the retreat offers the ultimate in understated luxury. Built from local stone and timber and hosting a pillow-topped king bed and luxurious bathtub you will have uninterrupted panoramic views of the surrounding rugged landscape.
Step into this unique piece of Gilberton and enjoy a welcome platter and bottle of champagne on arrival. Meals and beverages are all-inclusive and include dinner at the homestead enjoying sunset drinks and a delicious wholesome country meal with the family, or enjoyed in the comfort and intimacy of the retreat.
With no phone, no TV or internet, we offer you a total detox from technology, allowing you to truly escape and relax.

Immerse yourself in station life or settle in with nature, we’ve got a variety of tours and experiences for you to choose from that showcase our unique balance of working cattle station and nature refuge. The family focus has always been on environmental sustainability with looking after the land an absolute priority.
Head out with a family guide on a four-wheel buggy for seasonal mustering and station activities; take a four-wheel drive tour to explore the original Gilbert River gold rush mining township, Mt Veteran gold mine and Lake Fred or have a go at gold fossicking; discover the local flora and fauna of this nature refuge; have fun in the homestead dam on a kayak, stand up paddleboard, paddleboat or take a dip; enjoy sunset drinks on Mt Nation or simply just soak up the tranquility from ‘The Retreat’.

Directions
From Townsville
Leave Townsville via Hervey Range Road. Take the time to stop for a cuppa at the top of the range at the Herveys Range Heritage Tea Rooms. Continue on Hervey Range Road to the Gregory Development Road junction.
Turn right and take the Gregory Developmental Road to the Lynd Junction.
From the Lynd /Oasis roadhouse continue along the Kennedy highway 45km to the Oak Park turn off. A sign will be there saying Gilberton Outback Retreat. You now have only 118 km left to go. This will take you approximately 2 hours. Turn only at the Gilberton Outback Retreat signs. The last 118km is a gravel/dirt road. Please drive according to road conditions.

Cancellation Policy: 61 days or more prior to arrival: no cancellation fees apply. 60-31 days prior to arrival: 50% cancellation fee applies based on original booking dates.
