The Big Rig Roma

The Big Rig tells of all the twists and drama of when oil and gas first flowed in our nation, the story of our oil and gas pioneers comes alive through exhibits, machinery displays, audio-visual features and our local 'Roma Rigger' guides. 

A self guided tour of the Oil Patch Museum tells the trials and tribulations that our pioneers endured whilst trying to strike it rich with Roma oil, and how their lessons have led to a multi-billion industry today. Visitors can immerse themselves in their stories, stand beneath the rigs and gain an understanding of the hope, ingenuity and mateship that shaped the Australian oil, gas and energy industry. Guided tours of the Oil Patch Museum with a 'Roma Rigger' are also available.

The Night Show Sunset Experience will ignite interest in sabotage, drama and intrigue through the eyes of a 'Roma Rigger' guide, with a glass of Outback port and an original sound and light show. The events that occurred in Roma threatened to destroy the Australian oil and gas industry before it even began, join us as we share the gritty details and salute Australia's riggers past and present.

Experience it all with A Day and Night at The Rig. This experience includes a guided Oil Patch Tour, the Night Show Sunset Experience and High Tea for Two. The high tea includes ham sandwiches with locally made chutney and fresh scones with jam and cream all served on a locally manufactured Big Rig High Tea tower.

Roma is in Outback Queensland and is a one-hour flight from Brisbane or less than a day by road.
